RiddleVerse Contest

THE SPONSOR: The contest sponsor is Versyv, Inc., 180 Sansome St., San Francisco, CA 94104 (“Sponsor”).

APPLE INC IS NOT a sponsor of RiddleVerse contests, and is NOT involved in any way with this contest.

Prior to entering any contest, all contestants must register online at (the “Website”) or via the RiddleVerse mobile application (the “App”), which may be downloaded for free on your mobile device on iOS and Android (the Website and App, collectively, are the “Platform”).  All registration information must be completely filled out.  Sponsor will offer several daily riddle-solving contests (each a “Contest”) through the Platform, held at preset times during each day.  Contest times will be listed in advance on the Platform.

Once registered, contestants are eligible to enter as many Contests as are available on the Platform. The entry period for participation in any Contest closes just before the riddle is published.  The Platform will display the precise time at which riddles will be published on the Platform, and each Contest will have a countdown timer that will begin 60 minutes prior to riddle publication.  Additionally, for contestants entered into any Contest, the Platform will display a running timer for that Contest, indicating to all contestants the amount of time remaining in the Contest to submit answer entries for that current Contest.  Sponsor’s server system is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.

To participate in a Contest to win prizes, a user must register for that riddle and pay an entry fee of one (1) Coin.  Coins are purchased through the Platform at the prices set forth.  When the Contest begins, each registered contestant must be logged into the Platform in order to access the riddle, and must submit any and all answers through the Platform.  Each riddle for a given Contest is published at preset times via the Platform.  Contestants will not receive the riddles individually via text, email, or any other method.  Logging into the Platform is the only way to access the contest publication of each riddle.  Contestants have 30 minutes to submit up to 5 answer Entries.  Each “Entry” is a contestant’s paid, qualified riddle answer submission within a Contest.   The purchase and submission of up to four additional qualifying Entries per participating user in that Contest is allowed. The cost of each additional Entry submitted will be equal to the original entry fee. The option to submit additional Entries is only available to registered contestants once the Contest has begun. There is no pre-registration for the four possible additional Entries – this is strictly an “in contest” option that can be exercised only after the contest has begun and contestant’s first Entry has been submitted and received. Likewise, a third Entry can only be submitted after the contestant’s second Entry has been submitted and received, and so on, until a maximum total of five Entries have been submitted and received. Contestants will receive instant notification through the Platform when they may elect to purchase and submit another Entry, and when they no longer have any additional Entries available to them for that Contest.  No more than five total Entries per entrant, per Contest are permitted.

No contestant is under any obligation to purchase any more than one Entry per contest, nor is any registered contestant required to submit more than one Entry to win. The additional Entry purchases are entirely at the contestant’s option.

No contestant will be allowed more than one correct Entry per Contest. The first correct Entry received from any account will be time stamped and recorded and any additional Entries from that user will be deemed incorrect.

If no correct answer is provided by any contestant within the time limit for a particular Contest, all Entry fees (including both initial Entry fees and, if applicable, additional Entry fees), for that Contest will be fully refunded to registered contestants of that Contest.  (Fees paid by contestants for contest clues in that Contest, however, will not be refunded.)

If you are not eligible to enter a Contest, you may be eligible to play the free version of RiddleVerse riddle-solving contests (“Free Game”).  The Free Game is open to users who are: 1) registered on the Platform; 2) at least thirteen (13) years old at the time of registration, and 3) legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia, and who are physically located in and using the Platform from one of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia.  There are no entry fees or prizes in the Free Game; it is for entertainment purposes only.  However, players of the Free Game may, at their option, use Coins to purchase clues to a riddle, in accordance with the terms set forth below.

In addition to submitting multiple Entries for additional fees, a registered contestant may also use Coins to purchase up to three (3) clues for each Contest at the prices set forth by Sponsor. Clues will be offered via the Platform, and may be purchased only once the Contest begins. Clue purchases will be automatically transacted and the clue revealed by the click of a field on the Platform.  There will be three (3) clues available to purchase, per Contest.  Users may purchase one clue at a time, or all clues at once, at their discretion. If any user electes to purchase one clue at a time, the first clue purchased will ALWAYS be Clue One, the next clue purchased will ALWAYS be Clue Two, and the Third will ALWAYS be Clue Three, for ALL USERS in the Contest. Each clue will increase in price if purchased individually, but in no instance can Clue Two be purchased before Clue One, nor Clue Three be purchased before Clue Two. For a User to Purchase Clue Two alone, he or she MUST HAVE purchased Clue One previously, and for a User to purchase Clue Three alone, he or she must have purchased Clues One and Two previously. If a User selects the “Purchase all Clues” option, then all three Clues will be revealed to that User at the same time. All purchases of clues are non-refundable.

All RiddleVerse riddle contest answers will be official words in the English Language and/or commonly known proper names with universally recognized correct spellings. Correct spelling is a mandatory element of RiddleVerse’s definition of a correct response - an answer must be spelled correctly to be a judged a correct response, with no exceptions.  Any incorrectly spelled word submitted as an Entry will be judged as an incorrect response, no matter how similar to the correctly spelled answer it may be. The correct spelling of any answer in a RiddleVerse riddle contest is the preferred spelling of the word or words in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, as this is also the standard used by almost all spell checking programs for American English. All RiddleVerse riddle answers are CASE INSENSITIVE. No answer will be judged as correct or incorrect based upon any placement of upper or lower case letters within the answer. As long as the word is spelled correctly the case of the letters in such answer will not affect the answer’s correctness.

In some cases, the correct answer to a RiddleVerse riddle contest will require MORE THAN ONE WORD – such as “Lewis and Clark”, or “French Fries”.

This is called a compound answer. Some RiddleVerse riddle contests may require a compound answer as the correct response.

In all cases where the correct answer to a RiddleVerse riddle is a compound answer, the following rules apply:

1)    All of the words or proper names in an Entry must be spelled correctly for the submitted Entry to be judged as correct.  No abbreviation, uncommon alternate spelling, incorrectly spelled version or slang alternative to any official RiddleVerse riddle contest answer will be judged as a correct response if submitted by a user in an Entry.

2)    All of the correct words that form the answer must be included in the answer field and submitted as the Entry in order for the answer to be judged as correct.

3)    SPACES ARE IMPORTANT IN ALL RIDDLEVERSE RIDDLE ANSWERS. A space, in any Entry received by RiddleVerse, is ALWAYS counted as the end of a word, and therefore a space MUST be INTENTIONALLY INCLUDED between ALL of the words in any compound answer for the answer to be judged as correct in any RiddleVerse riddle contest.

4)    The word “and” can be included between any words of a compound answer, but will not be counted as part of the answer. For example, if the correct answer to a RiddleVerse riddle contest was “Lewis and Clark”, both “Lewis Clark” and “Lewis and Clark” would be deemed to be correct responses.

5)    Conversely, FAILURE TO INCLUDE A SPACE BETWEEN THE WORDS OF A COMPOUND ANSWER RESPONSE WILL RESULT IN THE RESPONSE BEING READ AS ONE WORD ONLY, AND CONSEQUENTLY JUDGED AS AN INCORRECT ANSWER. For example, if the answer to a RiddleVerse riddle contest was “Lewis and Clark” and an answer was submitted as either “LewisClark” or “LewisandClark”, both of these Entries would be judged as incorrect, as both would be considered one incorrectly spelled word, where two correctly spelled words were required as the correct answer.

In all RiddleVerse riddles the correct answer is the subject word, or words, alone, WITH NO ARTICLE OR ARTICLES, such as “the”, “a” or “an” preceding any word or words that comprise the correct answer. HOWEVER, if any article such as “a”, “an”, or “the” is included in a contestant’s Entry, it will be ignored by our scoring system and treated as if it weren’t there. NO ARTICLE IS EVER DESIGNED TO BE PART OF A CORRECT ANSWER TO A RIDDLEVERSE RIDDLE, AND DOES NOT HAVE TO BE INCLUDED IN ANY ENTRY, BUT THE PRESENCE OF AN ARTICLE BEFORE A CORRECT SUBJECT ANSWER WILL STILL RESULT IN THE ANSWER BEING JUDGED AS CORRECT. The inclusion of any of the articles “a”, “an”, or “the”, with a space following, and then the correct answer word or words following that, will still be judged as a correct answer.

Determining whether the correct answer is a singular or plural form of the answer subject word is an inherent aspect of the riddle solving skill of the contestants, and the context of each RiddleVerse riddle indicates, in every case, whether a singular or plural answer is required as the correct answer. Sponsor remains, in all cases, the final and sole arbiter of all correct responses to any and all RiddleVerse riddle Contests.

Sponsor will not provide any kind of assistance spelling-wise.  All correct answers in RiddleVerse riddle contests must be spelled correctly.

Every Entry received by RiddleVerse from a registered contestant will be timestamped when received, whether it is correct or not.

Sponsor is the sole and final authority that defines the correct answer, or correct answers, to every RiddleVerse riddle contest.  No appeals, explanations, or requests for reconsideration by users will be considered.  All decisions of Sponsor are final and binding in all aspects of the Contest.

Answers and winners are published immediately after the close of each Contest, on leaderboards on the Platform.  Contestants may also opt in to receive individual notifications.

PRIZES: The first correct submission that is received by Sponsor in a Contest will win first prize, which will be a cash prize in an amount set forth in advance on the Platform.  Several subsequent correct submissions will win smaller cash prizes and/or Coins, also in the amounts set forth in advance on the Platform.  The number and value of all prizes will be listed on the Platform before the start of each Contest.

Prizes are not transferable or substitutable and must be accepted as awarded. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes on their prizes.

Cash prizes will be distributed through e-vouchers issued via the Platform to each winner after every Contest, and must be redeemed through Sponsor’s verification system, pursuant to which Sponsor will mail a check to each verified winner.  Allow up to 6 weeks for delivery of checks.  Coin prizes will be automatically added to winners’ accounts.  Any cash prize may be redeemed for Coins instead of cash, at winner’s option.  Coin prizes, however, may not be redeemed for cash.  Coins are non-transferable.

In the event of a tie, the applicable prizes will be pooled together and divided equally between the tied winners.  By way of example only, if 3 contestants tie for 2nd place, then the prizes for 2nd place, 3rd place, and 4th place will be pooled together and divided equally between the 3 tied winners.
